ALL-STAR CHEER TEAMS

UPGC provides coaching and training for its non-profit All-Star Cheerleading team, the Chippewa Valley Spirit (CV Spirit). All-Star Cheerleading is a unique combination of gymnastics, acrobatics and athletic dance in a team competition environment. At UPGC you can learn exciting All-Star Cheer skills in a fun, safe environment!

All-star cheerleading as sanctioned by the USASF involves a team of 6 to 36 participants that perform a 2½ minute routine of carefully choreographed stunting, tumbling, jumping, and dancing to their own custom music. Routines are set to an eight-count system so that the team members execute the elements with precise timing and synchronization. The teams prepare year-round for competitions that normally take place in school gymnasiums to large venues depending on the number of teams participating.

Cheerleaders are placed into divisions, based upon age, size of the team, gender and ability level. The age levels vary from 5 to 18 years and over. The most common age divisions are Tiny, Mini, Youth, Junior and Senior. The age divisions are split into competition levels with a specific set of skills approved for each level. This allows beginners, intermediates and experts to be successful and challenged on an appropriate team! When scoring teams, judges look at the difficulty and execution of jumps, stunts and tumbling, synchronization, creativity, the sharpness of the motions, showmanship, and overall routine execution. Deductions include performing out-of-level skills, dropped stunts and touch downs in tumbling.

Success throughout the season provides opportunities to receive bids to both state and national championship competitions!
