How Important
is Good Coaching?
Gymnastic coaching at any level requires an intricate knowledge of
the sport that results from years of experience, education, and mentoring from other successful gymnastic coaches.
Gymnastics coaches must be able to teach and explain the specific skills for each event (vault, uneven bars, balance
beam and floor) at each level, in addition to identifying correct and incorrect form and body movement. Gymnastics
coaches must also encourage the children they coach and create a healthy, positive atmosphere.
Properly-trained coaches use good spotting techniques to guide gymnasts safely through difficult skills, and help
gymnasts master new and challenging skills. Gymnastic coaches must have proper knowledge of the newest training
techniques and regulations. A good coach constantly maintains a safe environment by reviewing the positioning and
safety of landing mats and making sure the equipment is properly adjusted, secured, and functioning to avoid possible
injury. Good gymnastics coaches help gymnasts learn discipline, sportsmanship, confidence and self-esteem that
can last throughout their lives. A successful gymnastics coach encourages gymnasts to do their best, while helping
them to learn from their mistakes in order to consistently improve. At Ultimate Performance Gymnastics, we are
committed to excellence in coaching for every child!
